MP asks Parliament to give Compact more bite
Levitt's 10 minute rule bill has cross-party and voluntary sector backing. A bill that would put the Commission for the Compact on a statutory footing has come before parliament. Labour MP Tom Levitt said there was "a unique opportunity to make the Compact more real and more relevant". Please follow the link for further details. It has Treasury approval. Needs a government bill to conveniently incorporate into. General election will slow progress.
First survey to gauge awareness of the Compact agreement across government
A survey will be carried out between July 2009 and January 2010, then annually, will measure awareness, knowledge, use and understanding of the Compact in central government departments and non-departmental government bodies. This will set baseline figures, while subsequent years will measure performance and help the commission to set an agenda for future work with the Goverment and quangos.
Initial findings will be presented during this year's Compact Week, which starts on Monday 2nd November. The full results will be published in February 2010.
A complementary baseline study will also be undertaken this summer by Compact Voice. It will examine how the Compact is working locally. info posted 26 may09
