VCS engagement with NSP
Following a fundamental review of the Northumberland Strategic Partnership, the outgoing Board and Executive decided at a joint meeting in March 2011 to restructure its membership. Click here for briefing on review. It is likely that the VCS will be invited to have one member on the new Leadership Forum along with one from NALC and the business community and other public bodies active in Northumberland. Click here for diagram and a power-point presentation. The Consortium will be the mechanism for selecting the VCS representative. Details of the new arrangements will be provided as they become available together with how the VCS will be part of the new "priority groups", economic and health boards.

Community Development Report, November 2010
The County Council, using NEEP money, commissioned Sally Thomas, of Social Regeneration Consulting, to produce a report on community development. This 36 page report Community Development: Stronger Communities, better services is now available. It makes three main recommendations:
- for there to be a review of the delivery of engagement, empowerment & community development in the county
- to develop a neighbourhood strategy complemented by a community development strategy including a Delivery Plan which would set out the roles and responsibilities of partners.
- to evidence and promote the advantages of a community development approach.
There is also an associated document containing 6 appendices.
